Themes & Bureau

The sixty-fifth session of the Commission on the Status of Women CSW 65 will take place from 15 to 26 March 2021.

  • Priority theme: Women's full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls;
  • Review theme: Women's empowerment and the link to sustainable development (agreed conclusions of CSW 60)
  • Bureau

The Bureau of the Commission plays a crucial role in facilitating the preparation for, and in ensuring the successful outcome of the annual sessions of the Commission. Bureau members serve for two years. In 2002, in order to improve its work and ensure continuity, the Commission decided to hold the first meeting of its subsequent session, immediately following the closure of the regular session, for the sole purpose of electing the new Chairperson and other members of the Bureau (ECOSOC decision 2002/234). 

The Bureau for the 65th session (2021) of the Commission on the Status of Women comprises the following members: 

  • H.E. Mr. Mher Margaryan (Armenia), Chair (Eastern European States Group)
  • Ms. Jo Feldman (Australia), Vice-Chair (Western European and other States Group)
  • Ms. Ahlem Sara Charikhi (Algeria), Vice-Chair (African States Group)
  • Mr. Na Sang Deok (Republic of Korea), Vice-Chair (Asia-Pacific States Group)
  • Vice-Chair for the Latin American and Caribbean States Group; to be nominated

Youth and Gender Discussion on Film

"Glimpses into the Spirit of Gender Equality"

Join us for a film created to mark Beijing+25, that highlights the unique contribution young people are making at the grassroots and at the United Nations, to advance gender equality. 

The film screening will be followed by an open forum discussion with actor and gender equality proponent Penn Badgely, who is featured in the film, also known for his leading roles in "Gossip Girl" and "You".

UN Advocacy Training for Youth

Learn how to advocate effectively in the online environment of CSW this year, understand UN mechanisms for gender equality, learn the language of advocacy and what the global women’s movement is advancing in the discourse.

Virtual Platform Training for Parallel Event Organizers

Are you organizing one of the 640+ Parallel Events for the NGO CSW65 Virtual Forum? Not sure how to best utilize our virtual platform for your event? Join us for a training session specifically for Parallel Event organizers! We'll be going over how to utilize the platform to host your event, as well as how to promote your event and organization, and engage with Advocates and attendees.

The training will be recorded and disseminated after the event for those who cannot attend or those who need a refresher.

The Parallel Events application deadline has

been extended to 28 December 2020


Any NGO can apply as long as their proposed event is relevant to the CSW65 themes or the Generation Equality Forum. Your organization does not have to be ECOSOC-accredited to host a Parallel Event.

Priority theme: Women's full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls;

Use the platform as an advocacy tool by seeing who else is registered to the platform and networking with them.

Those who wish to participate in CSW 65 must pay US$25 and then have the status of advocate. Our organization is known at the UN as the International Federation of Business and Professional Women
